Got oil? We have plenty though you’d never know it from gas and heating oil prices.

We have it in ANWR, we have it in tar sands, shale, the Outer Continental Shelf, the Bakken Play in Montana, in fact, we have enough untapped oil to power our motor vehicles, heat our homes, and energize what’s left of our industries to keep America in business three hundred years, according to Kiplinger Magazine: http://bit.ly/cl0Zih

Problem is, we’d rather have $5 or $10 dollar gas, freeze our arses off, continue our dependence on foreign oil, let our industries and jobs slide down the sewer rather than go after those reserves, disturb moose-mating in ANWR, risk that shrimp, mackerel, and sturgeon don’t copulate and propagate sufficiently, or aggravate the environmental lobby.

More than any other president in modern history, you have to watch carefully what Obama does and virtually disregard what he says. Richard Nixon was a known dissembler and so his words were often discounted as the public and the press paid far more attention to his deeds to see what he was up to. Barack Hussein Obama is given a free pass by that same media and his deeds are disregarded when they are at variance with his actions.

Whether it’s his gaffes, or lack of transparency, or outright prevarications, don’t bother to read his lips, note his actions.

The question of energy independece represents a classic example of Obamian doublespeak.

An environmental extremist, Obama constantly preaches conservation, minimizing our oil and gas consumption, cutting back on essential activities, which is all well and good. At the same time he professes to be doing all in his power to explore and drill for oil and produce so-called clean energy and biofuels which are more expensive and in the case of windmills and solar, unreliable since winds don’t always blow and the sun doesn’t always shine.

Picking and choosing America’s current most outstanding hypocrites involves a daunting challenge. Separating the spoiled wheat from the rotting chaff is only doable providing one can pick and choose at the same time one holds one’s nose. The trouble is, there’s just so much competition, so many vying for the hypocrite crown that the only practical thing to do was to set aside two separate and equal crowns, for the political and non-political spheres.

Today, the political arena.

Needless to say, so I’ll say it anyway, hypocrisy is most prevalent in the smarmy world of politics where it’s so ingrained that it all but defines that world. Most people, unfortunately, anticipate lying, cheating, finagling, and subterfuge from most politicians who denounce the lying, cheating, finagling and subterfuge in other societal fields as if they were shocked, shocked, I tell you, at the corruption in the human soul. However, hypocrisy is hardly confined to politics where, thanks to our system of virtual lifetime tenure for career politicos, they have perfected the art of hypocrisy which others can only hope to emulate.

Let’s therefore begin with the political sphere and, since we’re there, why not start at the top, namely with the presidency of Barack Hussein Obama. Still shy of a hundred days in office, Obama and his appointed henchmen and henchwomen have already set a multitude of hypocrisy records. They range from the president’s accepting purebred Bo instead of adopting one of those puppies in a shelter window to his knowledge of Cabinet nominees’ tax cheating, most of which have been detailed in this space. Since we’re focusing here on the most recent events, we can narrow the field.

Many Americans very intelligently despise politics and all its related ickiness and generally ignore what comes out of D.C. and state capitals rather than getting involved in the nitty-gritties and rolling in the political mud. As a friend once confessed, he gets all the news he needs from ABC, NBC, and CBS even though he knows the coverage is slanted and superficial, and he’s pretty typical of the average guy, except in his awareness that network news is as skewed so far to the left it’s virtually objectively useless.

Obama, (no dumb bunny, he), is fully aware of the inclinations of Joe Average. After all, he was elected largely by the uninformed and misinformed. So, when he announced at his first full Cabinet meeting that $100,000,000 must be, ahem, slashed from his department budgets, he knew full well that the headlines would read just that, “PRESIDENT SLASHES $100 MILLION FROM BUDGET,” and my friend and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Average would be thrilled that our leader is leading the pack in cutting the federal fat. Maybe, only maybe, the mass media might mention, might mention, somewhere how many zeroes there are in the total budget of $4,000,000,000,000. Obama richly deserves to take top place in our CURRENT HYPOCRITE AWARDS not because of Bo but because of, once again, fooling some of the people all of the time while thinking he can fool all of the people all of the time.

Hot on Obama’s heels for the hypocrite pinnacle is Senator Dianne Feinstein, (D. CA), one of the dozens of multi-millionaires sitting in those taxpayer-provided seats in Congress. She was very eager to share the wealth, a goal expressed, then hushed, by candidate Obama. It would be admirable on the good senator’s part if it were her own wealth she were sharing. However, it’s taxpayer wealth she wanted doled out–to her husband–but indirectly, of course.

It was no paltry sum that Feinstein wanted shared. In fact, it was $25 Billion she wanted doled, to the FDIC, the agency which is normally funded by banks. She all but fell over herself when congress convened this year to get those billions shared but failed to mention that the FDIC “had just awarded her husband’s real estate firm a lucrative contract to sell foreclosed properties at compensation rates higher than the industry norms:”

Feinstein’s intervention with that unorthodox end-run for redistribution of wealth to the FDIC and, again indirectly, to Richard Blum, her loving and equally wealthy hubby, earns her second place in the hypocrite sweepstakes. As they say, the rich get richer and the poor either get pregnant or go broke keeping the rich happy.

America's Apostate Catholic Universities

What, in the name of God, is going on with America’s Catholic universities?

Notre Dame alumni are putting the screws to their alma mater, hitting it where it hurts most: in the Irish endowment.

The purpose: Dumping university president, Rev. John Jenkins. The reason: Jenkins’ invitation to pro-abortionist President Barack Obama to speak at commencement on May 17th and Jenkins’ surrender of the values upon which Notre Dame was founded. The prospects of success: Nil, in either ousting Jenkins or in stopping their school from honoring a man who stands in opposition to virtually everything Notre Dame and the Catholic faith holds true and sacred.

It would represent a further embarrassment to all concerned to revoke the Obama invite at this point and an equal embarrassment to force Jenkins to step down under duress. However, the school still has high hopes and anticipates President Obama will abide by tradition, even if the school has abandoned its traditional moral principles. A university spokesman indicated that, “Notre Dame expects Obama to Wear Prayer to Virgin Mary on His Chest When He Accepts Honorary Degree:” http://www.cnsnews.com/public/content/article.aspx?RsrcID=46844. That is the same traditional robe worn by such luminaries as George W. Bush and Martin Sheen and, as another spokesman added, “everyone” wears that robe when receiving such recognition by Notre Dame and so will Obama.

Don’t bet the farm on that expectation. Not that Obama isn’t into tradition but his traditions aren’t quite the same as Notre Dame’s. A White House spokesman when asked about the robe hemmed and hawed over an answer and sputtered, “I’ve looked around, but I don’t have an answer for you.”

We will get that answer in a little over a month at the graduation ceremony. I wonder how proud the new graduates and “Rudy” Ruetigger feel about the whole mess created for their beloved school by Father Jenkins.

That other prestigious, eastern United States Catholic university, Georgetown, had already succeeded in upstaging its sister Catholic school in South Bend by its shameful action when Obama spoke there recently. Georgetown deferred to Obama by covering the religiously-symbolic letters, “IHS,” which were never an issue for other speakers. For Obama, for some reason, the iconic symbol was “out of context.” GU subsequently offered the lame excuse that it required the space for flags. In what appears to be a never-ending competition for publicity, or for something far worse, Georgetown outdid itself during this year’s Lenten season

If I may digress for a brief bit, GU’s desecration of Lent brought to mind the priest and family friend who had officiated at our wedding 40 years ago. Twenty years later, Father Joe decided he had had it and left the priesthood. His winters of discontent were not rooted in his religion or the priesthood per se as much as it was discontent with the new priests entering that vocation. He expressed the reason for his giving up his vestments in a rhetorical question: “What other profession offers such a ripe field for homosexuals to pursue their homosexual inclinations?”

His point and the cause of Father Joe’s justifiable anger was the influx of gays into the priesthood, the results of which have become all too evident in contemporary headlines about predator priests and child molestation. As vocations by the truly priestly plummeted, the Church sought to fill the ranks by allowing entry into its seminaries not only to “non-practicing” homosexuals but to others of questionable character and morality, as long as they hadn’t been caught yet.

The results are also evident at Georgetown University. Jesuit GU bastardized the first week of Lent with “Sex Positive Week,” dedicated not exclusively to homosexuality but open to all “positivity.”

Georgetown’s “Sex Positive Week” featured a variety of “positive” events. On Monday they had a panel discussion on positive sex. Tuesday focused on the eternal query, “Can pornography be sex positive?” Wednesday, Ash Wednesday, . . .

MUSLIM MURDERESS OPPRESSED: It was alleged that a Muslim woman, Nour Hadid, had murdered her 2 year old niece, according to Orland Park, Illinois police. That would be a horrific crime and Orland Park police handled it in a professional manner. After her arrest, as per procedure, her picture, her mugshot, was taken, sans her hajib or head scarf and in a “skimpy” top. Hubby Alaeddin Hadid, no relation to the magic carpet Alladin, took offense, contending Nour was dissed by the cops and he vowed to sue saying that such a photograph “is against our religion; we do not do this in our culture:” (http://www.southtownstar.com/news/1520478,041009mugshot.article) Well, hello, Alaeddin, you’re not living in your culture and in our culture we take great offense at murdering children and objecting to cops doing their job by recording on film the face, not the scarf, of the accused!

America's Next Tea Party: April 15, 2009

The Boston Tea Party wasn’t much of a party and the ton of tea dumped into Boston harbor in 1773 represented more a sacrifice than it was a protest against Britain’s tea tax. The colonials loved their spot of tea but they loved their freedom and independence far more.

The Boston Tea Party was actually a powder keg which wasn’t the least bit dampened by the frigid New England waters that December night. The massive explosion of that keg helped serve to light the way for the American Revolution which, three years down the dusty roads of 18th century America, led to our Declaration of Independence from an oppressive King George III and a vengeful British Parliament.

The madness of King George and the stupidity and venality of that legislative body whose members, bedecked in their powdered wigs and immersed in their pride and righteous indignation, have been fully documented over the 235 intervening years since that tea party. Five days from now, Americans will have another opportunity to inform other oppressive ruling bodies that we’re fed up and refuse to take it any longer.

The Congress of the United States and our new, reigning monarch-wanna be, Obama the First, have seen fit to impose on the American people and upon our children and grandchildren undue, repressive, and unnecessary tax burdens which are designed to create, support, and expand massive social programs intent on establishing a massive, dependent welfare state and to “share the wealth,” as King Obama let slip to Joe the Plumber during the campaign.

Most of the machinations in process are still unknown to the citizenry, such programs as ending the Bush tax cuts in 2010, a tactic which will allow our Democrats to assert they did not raise taxes. Taxes will soar because the tax cuts simply expired. Get that?

Our Democratic leaders are actively and subtly employing the ol’ boiling a frog trick: Dump that little green sucker into tepid water and gradually jack up the temperature until, Voila! you have frog legs that taste like chicken, and taxpayers who are boiled alive and ready for the Soylent Green factories–after they pay their taxes.

I’m not a big aficionado of country and western music nor of country singer, John Rich, but his new hit single is worth a listen if you’re as angry as he is over Washington’s efforts to bankrupt the nation.

It’s worth a listen if you believe that the CEO of Merrill Lynch using taxpayer bailout money to buy a $38,000. toilet is an incredible wasteful use of our money during an awful economy.

It’s worth a listen if you’re angry that this and other monumental waste is going on when people are being thrown out of work and thrown out of their homes and as workers and retireees watch their nesteggs go round and round, heading down that CEO’s toilet.

If you believe that the D.C. shenanigans are “absolute nonsense” and reflect “a lack of reality and a lack of respect for American taxpayers” and if you further believe that the “long-term effects of spending trillions and trillions of [our] grandkids’ dollars [isn’t] worth the short-term blackjack move that [President Obama’s] making to stimulate our economy right now?” you should appreciate, “Shuttin’ Detroit Down.”

I’ve gotten to like semi-deposed Illinois Governor, Rod Blagojevich.

No, I’m not mentally deranged, I don’t think. Nor am I of Serbian extraction as the mop-haired ex-gov is. Nor do I suggest he’s innocent of any charges against him, although he’s not been charged with any; after all, the guy is from Illinois, home state of the most corrupt town in the country, if not on the planet, so he has to be guilty of everything.

And, yes, I’m up to here with 24/7 Blago news as much as I am with Madoff news and Britney news. But, I’ve come to like Rod’s overall style, if not his hairstyle–and how this Chicago-born Democrat has been sticking it to his fellow Dems far and wide.

I furthermore believe that he’s not a “cuckoo,” as Mayor Daley II has called him twice, the same mayor who supported him twice for the governorship and with whom he palled around and with whom he sat on numberless daises, etc. I think also that Rod has a couple tricks still up his well-tailored sleeve as well as a plan to keep himself out of the hoosegow. He may have risen from humble roots, but he seems to have a grand exit plan.

True, he’s brash, obnoxious, foul-mouthed, sleazy, greedy, and glib, all of which are standard attributes for Illinois political success. He also seems supremely confident for some reason and for that reason, the Powers-that-be in Illinois and Chicago are determined to bring him down. I think those Powers are mightily afraid of what Blago knows and aware that he has no compunctions about spilling all he knows.

Let’s look at the record, as the venerable former New York Governor Al Smith used to say, not Blagojevich’s record in Springfield but the record since December 9th when what he has termed his personal Pearl Harbor began.

The poor guy was rousted from the warm bed he shares with the equally-greedy and equally-foul-mouthed Mrs. Patricia B. on that cold December morning in 2008, barely a month after Barack Obama’s election as president. With his two young kids, hopefully, still sleeping at 6:15 a.m, ...

As the ardently pro-abortionist President Obama plots to end any and all restrictions on the practice of aborting pre-born babies in the United States and to fund abortions worldwide, it’s time to review the issue. It would be in America's interest for Obama to do the same.

Fifty years ago in our country, the word “abortion,” if not unheard of, was rarely uttered in polite society, much like but more emotionally charged than the use of the F-word or even the N-word are today. But times have changed and as the old Virginia Slims cigarette commercial enticed women, “You’ve come a long way, Baby!”And that they have, for better or worse.

It is not the purpose of this article to discuss the reasons for that change as it relates to what is now called reproductive rights other than to mention the obvious, namely the development of the women’s rights movement, women’s liberation, which not coincidentally sprouted around the same time that agitation for legalized abortion began.

A significant and deadly right claimed by the bra-burning demonstrators of the 1960’s was the right to destroy their pre-born “products of conception” Today, that right has become so ingrained in the American psyche that the act itself is almost commonplace.

Originally, pro-abortionists readily, if not proudly, accepted that label until the rise of the Pro-life movement and the realization of Americans’ general feeling of repugnance at the thought of what an abortion involved. It was then that pro-abortionists resorted to the euphemistic label of “pro-choice” to describe themselves and their position.

The Pro-choice movement, however, never took into consideration a choice that should have been the right of the most innocent party in an abortion, namely the pre-born child’s. That tiny being was denied personhood by the highest court in the land in 1973 in its most capricious and far-reaching decision since Dred Scott v. Sandford in 1857. One main difference is that Roe v. Wade had much deadlier consequences for what lawyers call the party of the first part, the baby, who not only was denied personhood but literally had no voice in the matter and ultimately was denied life itself.

President Barack Hussein Transparency Obama,who had promised a “a new level of transparency” in public life is rapidly retreating to a new level of opaqueness within all of three days into his four year reign.

For those maleducated in American public schools, the word “transparency” in a political context means clarity, openness, honesty, candidness, and visibility as opposed to deceit, artfulness, concealment, secrecy, and opaqueness.

Why anyone would expect Obama to follow through on a pledge of transparency when his entire campaign, from questionable fund raising to his smarmy associations was cloaked in subterfuge and deception is beyond me but a majority of voters still bought into his baloney and voted for the guy.

Go figure but the baloney won’t last the test of time until 2012.

You can take a politician out of Chicago but you can’t take the seamy world of Chicago intrigue and crime out of the politician. Of all Obama’s camp followers, the mainstream media, the MSM, is the first that’s quickly coming to realize that the man is not what he seemed. More precisely, the man is all that he seemed to objective critics, though not to his media lapdogs and therein lay the shocker to them. That media, which never bothered to vet him or insist he serve some meat with his political pap, may be coming to realize he is the ultimate charlatan.

BHM may have been able to fool a press more than willing to be fooled but when he starts messing with their bread and butter, accessibility, the White House Press Corps tends to get downright ornery.

And he has begun messing with that accessibility.

THE INAUGURATION PART IV: What You Won’t Read and See on the MSM

Before we’re all caught up in the heady thrill–and propaganda–of the inauguration and the new administration, some perspective is in order. I’ve seen and read articles that are so effusive over Obama and this Age of Change that I was beginning to wonder if I watched a different inauguration and whether all I know about the true Obama and his Obamaniacs was misconstrued.

Then I regained my senses and realize it is not. (See the 50 or 60 previous articles on him on this site.) I’ve seen the man–and he is just a mortal man, contrary to widely reported information–a man extolled for his countless virtues, his elegance, his unflappable demeanor, even for his handwriting skills by Wolf Blitzer.

However, behind the facade, behind that screen, is simply a man, a flawed man like all of us, and his true skills or lack thereof will be seen even on the world stage soon enough. Considering the limitations imposed by a paltry day as opposed to the lengthy four which lie ahead, all we have with which to gain a measure of Obama, (aside from his recorded history, of course), is his friends and his supporters. If in any way we are known by the friends we keep, Obama’s friends give cause for trepidation.

One group of friends, (May we call them FOB for Friends of Barack?), was gathered on the Washington Mall as still-President George W. Bush arrived at the inauguration on Tuesday. Faithful to that promise of candidate Barack Obama, President Barack Hussein Obama has begun dismantling America’s social foundations with plans to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) as well as changing other established policies with regard to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered (LGBT) communities. Headed with the above 2007 quotation by Obama, under the category, “Support for the LGBT Community,” the plan incorporates efforts to:

Expand Hate Crimes Statutes: . . . President Obama cosponsored legislation that would expand federal jurisdiction to include violent hate crimes perpetrated because of race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, or physical disability. . .

Fight Workplace Discrimination: President Obama supports the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, and believes that our anti-discrimination employment laws should be expanded to include sexual orientation and gender identity. . .

Support Full Civil Unions and Federal Rights for LGBT Couples: President Obama supports full civil unions that give same-sex couples legal rights and privileges equal to those of married couples. Obama also believes we need to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act . . .

Inaugural Uglies

THE INAUGURATION: PART II–Obamanians Rip Our President


Heaps of stories will be forthcoming about this inauguration, its aftermath and its repercussions.

News reports will be filled with hyperbole such as one WABC reporter’s reference to Obama’s inaugural speech as “stirring,” when in fact it was anything but stirring and was punctuated by a frequent pauses as the new president seemed waiting for applause, and none came.

The massive crowd missed its applause lines until the end when screams and howls filled the air but the day is far from over. The applause will continue and swell tonight at the ten inaugural balls being held around the capital as Obama supporters continue their revelry throughout the night.

Presidential inaugurations are somewhat like college commencements when speakers extol the graduates and extend fatuous encouragement for their futures before all head out to commence their careers, filled with infused courage and optimism.

One difference is that the swearing in of a new president and his first address as America’s leader, along with the attendant invocation, prayer, poetry and song, represent an opportunity to fill the American citizenry with hope and confidence as we embark with the president on the next four years.

Inauguration Day 2009 accomplished little of that. The invocation was worthy of the occasion but, following that, the prayer, poetry, song, and Obama’s speech were filled less with hope and good thoughts than they brimmed with insulting rhetoric, uninspiring verse, and failed pretensions to greatness.

Reverend Lowery’s line verbally spanking white people, almost half of whom had voted for a black man was the worst of the lot, although Alexander’s lame effort at an inspiring poem and Obama’s disappointing attempt to be a new Lincoln or JFK weren’t far behind. His speech was devoid of a single memorable phrase and he even fumbled his “oaf” of office, Senator Dianne Feinstein’s word.

Wall Street caught the word about the future by going into a freefall. The Dow lost 332 points, the worst Inaugural Day performance in history.

Behind the public scene, there were health scares with Ted Kennedy’s post-luncheon seizures and Robert Byrd’s premature exit. Reflections on the Inauguration

INAUGURAL REFLECTIONS

Just some musings on the big event that is to occur in the nation’s capital on January 20th, 2009:

…..The oft-heard expression, What would Jesus have done . . . can be applied to Obama’s record-splitting, $170,000,000 inaugural festivities and based on President Obama’s abortion record alone, I’m guessing He wouldn’t show up even if He were invited. If He did grant an appearance, He may ask Obama how many poor that 170,000,000 would feed, clothe, and shelter.

…..Abraham Lincoln no doubt would have gotten an invite but honest-to-a-fault Abe, Obama’s presidential hero and model, should be the last person to be invited. As Leonard Pitts of the Miami Herald has pointed out, Lincoln, the Great Emancipator, was adamantly opposed to mixing races and believed African Americans were inferior. Maybe he could be assigned a seat in the back somewhere?

…..Obama may show the world how much he believes in change by showing up at one or more of the dozen or so inaugural balls tie-less, maybe even shirtless to show off his abs as he did on that Hawaii beach last month. The man repeatedly proclaimed he wanted a still undefined “change” so this would be a great way to get the change-ball rolling. Instead of top hat and tails, this could be Obama at the planned at the “Hip Hop Inaugural Ball” at the Harman Center:

…..Last we heard, Obama’s half-bro, George Hussein Onyango Obama, is still eking out a meager survival on $2.00 a month in his shantypad outside Kenya’s capital and will probably be a no-show in D.C. He will just have to be content with having a mention in Barack’s autobiography as a “beautiful boy with a rounded head.”

…..Rev. Jeremiah God-Damn-America Wright will be in attendance, however, since now there’s no need for the pretense that he and “Barry” have been on the outs. The charade need not be continued that Obama and family sat in the pews of Wright’s Trinity United Church of Christ for 20 years and never noticed Wright was an America-hating fruitcake. The election is over and Jeremiah is free to crawl out of his rathole and resume dissing America. . . .

I can’t say I’ve ever met a happy leftist nor a happy pro-abortionist. Of course, those categories invariably overlap since I’ve never met a leftist who wasn’t pro-abortion and vice versa.

It’s understandable that those of a leftist bent are rarely if ever happy people considering that their entire social/political philosophy revolves around negatives: anti-Americanism, anti-freedom, anti-truth, and anti-life. They are adept at feigning happiness but fail to fool anyone, especially themselves.

Those most committed to abortion rights, aka committed to destroying pre-born life, are easily the most miserable lefties. Yet, they don’t know it. The women of the left have killed untold numbers of their own pre-born children and many, such as Whoopi Goldberg, are astoundingly proud of their actions.
